Understanding Process Service
Process serving is the formal delivery of court papers or other legal documents to a person, business or authorized recipient. Its purpose is to provide notice that a legal action, hearing, demand or court obligation exists.
In many civil matters, a case cannot move forward properly until the required parties receive notice in a manner permitted by the applicable rules. The correct method can depend on the court, jurisdiction, document type, recipient and facts of the case. That is why process service should be approached as a documented legal-support function—not merely as dropping off paperwork.
A professional process server receives the documents and service instructions, reviews the identifying and address information, plans the assignment, makes appropriate attempts and records what occurred. If service is completed, the server prepares the appropriate proof or affidavit information. If service is not completed, the attempts and relevant observations remain part of the assignment record.
Elite Legal Services handles process-serving assignments throughout Greater Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. We work with attorneys, law firms, businesses, government agencies and self-represented individuals. ELS provides process serving and related legal support, but does not give legal advice or determine which service method your case requires.
Service is intended to provide formal notice that a person or organization is involved in a legal matter or must respond to a legal document.
The timing, location and outcome of service attempts should be recorded clearly so the client can understand what occurred during the assignment.
After completion, the appropriate proof or affidavit information is prepared based on the assignment, jurisdiction and manner of service.
Professional Process Service
A missed detail, incomplete attempt record or unclear proof can create unnecessary questions and delays. A professional process server brings organized field work, neutral documentation and responsive communication to an important part of the legal process.
A private process server can organize attempts around the known address, deadline, recipient information and service level rather than treating the assignment as a generic delivery.
The server records what happened during each attempt, including relevant location, timing and field observations, without becoming an advocate in the underlying dispute.
Clients receive organized status information instead of having to wonder whether the order was received, whether attempts occurred or whether additional information is needed.
Appropriate proof or affidavit information is prepared after the assignment so the client has documentation for records or filing, subject to the court and jurisdiction.
Routine, rush, same-day and immediate options allow the client to choose a service level that better matches the assignment deadline and urgency.
Familiarity with Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky supports practical routing and a stronger understanding of the communities within the ELS service area.
Sheriff or Other Method
Courts and jurisdictions may permit different methods of service. The correct choice depends on the governing rules and your case. ELS does not tell clients which method they are legally required to use.
Private Process Server
Clients often choose a private process server when they want focused assignment management, clearly documented attempts, flexible service levels and direct communication with the service provider.

Process Serving FAQs
These general answers explain how ELS handles assignments. Court rules, deadlines and valid methods of service can vary, so clients should rely on their attorney or the applicable court rules for legal guidance.
ELS currently publishes four process-service levels within the standard coverage area: Standard Service at $125, Rush Service at $195, Same-Day Service at $250 and Immediate, after-hours or weekend service at $400.
Optional services and unusual or out-of-area assignments may add to the total. Immediate and after-hours availability is not guaranteed until the assignment is reviewed.
A standard ELS process-service assignment includes up to three strategically timed attempts when reasonably necessary. The actual number and timing may depend on the address, deadline, information provided and what is learned during the assignment.
Timing depends on the selected service level, recipient availability, address quality, deadline, location and facts encountered in the field. ELS offers routine, next-business-day rush, same-day and immediate priority options.
A faster dispatch does not guarantee that the recipient will be located or that service will be completed on the first attempt.
A recipient’s conduct does not, by itself, determine whether service is legally complete. The outcome depends on the applicable rules, the authorized method of service and the specific facts observed by the server.
ELS documents the circumstances and reports what occurred. We do not provide legal advice about whether a particular event satisfies the requirements of a court or jurisdiction.
ELS records relevant attempt details and field observations. Strategic timing may be used within the scope of the order, and additional information may be requested from the client.
Avoidance does not guarantee that service can be completed. Additional service methods or court authorization may be necessary, and those legal decisions must be made by the client, attorney or court.
Workplace service may be possible depending on the recipient, location, access, assignment instructions and governing rules. A workplace is not automatically an appropriate or accessible service location.
Provide the employer name, work address, schedule information and any known access restrictions when submitting the order.
Yes. ELS accepts assignments directed to corporations, limited liability companies, registered agents, offices and other business recipients.
The client should provide the correct legal entity name, service address, intended recipient and any available agent or officer information.
Evening, weekend and immediate priority service may be available. Availability depends on the time submitted, location, document readiness, deadline and existing field assignments.
Contact ELS before ordering when the assignment requires a specific after-hours or weekend dispatch window.
The attempt and relevant observations will be documented. ELS offers professional skip tracing as an optional service when additional location information may be useful.
Skip-trace results are informational and do not guarantee that a new address is current, accessible or sufficient for successful service.
Yes. After completion, ELS prepares the appropriate proof or affidavit information for the client’s records or filing needs. The exact format may depend on the court, jurisdiction, document type and manner of service.
